If you are at least 16 years old, live in the Wesley Chapel fire district and have a strong desire to serve your community, becoming a Wesley Chapel firefighter or EMT might be right for you.
When you join, you spend 90 days as a probationary member. As a probationary member, you are expected to attend drill nights and meetings to learn about the department. The probationary period gives you a chance to evaluate whether this is something that you want to pursue. If after 90 days you decide that you are interested and willing to invest you time in training and responding to emergencies, the members will decide to make you a full member.
All training and equipment is provided free of charge to the members. Informal training is conducted every Tuesday evening from 7 pm - 10 pm. Formal training is available through South Piedmont Community College and is offered at various sites throughout the county. Time commitment for formal training depends on the course. A basic firefighting course and an EMT-B course each run about 3-4 months meeting two nights a week.
The best way to learn more about volunteering is to stop by Station 31 at 8821 New Town Road on any Tuesday evening. If you prefer to call, you can call Station 31 and leave a message at 704-843-0425. We will return your call.
